Wigan Launches Comprehensive Pressure Ulcer Campaign

This month (April 2012) has seen the launch of the new pressure ulcer prevention campaign for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The launch took place at St Peters Pavilion in Hindley where Director of Patient and Nursing Services for the Trust, Gill Harris, outlined her support for the campaign which is being led by tissue viability nurses, Lindsey Bullough and Karen Patterson.

Working in partnership with the Your Turn national pressure ulcer awareness campaign, Lindsey and Karen have launched an education campaign that brings together the whole health economy including GP’s, public health, social services, formal and informal carers, the ambulance service and the general public.

The people of Wigan and its surrounding boroughs can expect to see more of the Your Turn logo in public areas and to learn more about pressure ulcer prevention as the campaign gathers pace over the next 6 months.

“This is a very exciting time for us,” commented Gill Harris.  “I am personally passionate about and committed to reducing preventable pressure ulcers across the whole of Wigan and this campaign gives us an excellent opportunity to really educate our community about the risks of pressure ulcers and how to avoid them.”
